Tyne and Wear Creative Culture

About
We build for better, together. Tyne and Wear Creative Culture runs on creativity, diversity, and positivity. That’s because our mission is to unlock the imagination of builders, including our own. We cultivate an inclusive space where innovation in music, performance and art can thrive and where all feel welcome, celebrated, and contribute meaningfully as we build a great community togethe

Services
As part of our commitment to support diverse cultural experiences in the region, we offer free use of our facilities to projects looking for a platform to make connections with our community through culturally rich activities. Finding suitable and affordable space for projects in our region can be challenging, especially when organisations are looking to develop and grow long term projects with limited resources. Our facilities can hold up to 350 people, with the provision of a premises licence, kitchen, staging, seating, sound equipment and lighting, we can support a broad range of culturally rich projects while significantly reducing the financial burden of getting a project of the ground
We would love to hear from you to see if we could help

Projects
We work with several social welfare charities and community organisations, who run programmes and services for specific communities in our region. We work alongside them to help address local needs, such as providing community space, host educational programs, and recreational activities.
We also work alongside organisations who help us fund and run music workshops for children and young persons who due to circumstances have limited access to opportunities and face barriers accessing music recreation and learning activities.

Our Home has a rich history in South Shields
First opened in 1891 as `The Royal Assembly Hall’, the building has gone through many changes over the years, in October 1920 it became the Scala Cinema and the building had 2 entrances, from Mile End Rd and Ocean Rd, in March 1951 it became The Gaumont and the Ocean Rd entrance was closed in 1960. In October 1975 it became Focus Cinema then The Regal Cinema in May 1980 which closed in 1982. 1984 saw the building become a bingo club and amusement centre. It later became an iconic night spot on the South Shields bar circuit, The Venue, with the addition of Gladstones later. The building has been home to various nightspots since then and now we have the privilege of having this fantastic building as our home.

A Community Hub for Young Musicians
We are proud to build a vibrant community music hub that provides more than just facilities. Our welcoming space encourages its users to connect, collaborate, and grow together. Through our music workshops and performances, students have the opportunity to share their passions and learn from one another. This sense of community fosters creativity and resilience, setting us apart from traditional one-on-one music tuition.
Our commitment to the community extends beyond our students. By organizing cultural events and live performances, we enhance the musical landscape of South Tyneside and beyond. Join us as we strive to create a future where music education is not a privilege but a right for everyone.
